2015 Sun City "Nuwejaar" Klubrit

Youngest cyclist to complete Kremetart 175km Road Race

The race this year was rather tougher than normal as the normal race is 175km over four stages around the Soutpansberg, but due to poor road conditions on the circular route the organiser had to do an out and back three stage race.

At the end of every stage, all are grouped again to start over in their respective batches.

The First stage was 55 km from Makado over the Soutpansberg to Waterpoort.

The second stage was 65 km from Waterpoort out and back to Waterpoort ( With a hectic wind all the way back )

The third stage was thus the 55 km back over the Soutpansberg back to Makado

The third stage had close to 40km of steep climbing over the pass.

Dylan Small was actually not allowed to participate as he is too young, but they got special permission since he was supervised by his Grandfather who was also cycling. So we think he might be the youngest ( unofficially ) to complete the 175km ..

Way to go Dylan...you made us proud!!

Hartbeespoort Cycling Club focuses on developing young cyclists

On the 25 January 2014, 3 young riders from the Hartbeespoort Cycling Club took part in the African Continental Mountain bike cross country championships.  South Africa played hosts for the 2014 event, as previous years it was held in Namibia, Mauritius, etc.

To show their renewed focus on developing the youth, Hartbeespoort Cycling Club sent a team of 3 riders to represent not only their cub, but also their country!  Cross country racing (xco – as it is an Olympic cycling discipline) is made up of multiple laps on the course and racers have to acquaint themselves well with the track to enable them to manage the technical challenges.

Participants take part in their own respective age categories. Two Junior (age 17 – 18) boys took part as well as 1 Youth (age 15 – 16) boy.The course have been described as insane, due to the amount of super steep climbs and sharp drops. Technically the course was very challenging due to wide gap jumps and rock gardens.

Hartbeespoort Cycling Club’s support to our youngsters were honoured with great results, as Agostinho Correia was the 6th fastest Youth boy in Africa. Wade Prinsloo finished 7th in the Junior boys and Johan Hartzenberg completed the Junior boys in 11th position. The difficulty of the course becomes evident when one sees that only 16 riders out of 38 in the Junior Boys category could complete the race.

Starting this year, Hartbeespoort Cycling Club will have a particular focus on developing the younger riders in our area. Cyclists are all encouraged to join the club and all its activities as an exciting programme lies ahead for the year.
